How to Create Online Donation Forms for Nonprofits

Do you want to create online donation forms on your nonprofit WordPress website? Collecting online donations is a very effective way to raise funds for charities, relief funds, etc.

In this article, I will show you a step-by-step guide on how to create a nonprofit donation form that will help you to easily collect donation funds using PayPal or Stripe.

Well, there are plenty of WordPress donation plugins in the market, but not all of them are easy to use. For this, WPForms is a powerful and reliable plugin that can easily integrate with Stripe and PayPal, so you can securely receive donations via credit card right on your website.

How to Create a Nonprofit Donation Form on Your WordPress Website

To get started with donation forms, you’ll need to install Stripe or PayPal addon for WPForms. To get access to these addons, you can choose any of their Pro and Elite plans.

Step 1: Create a Donation Form

To get started, you will have to install and activate the WPForms plugin on your WordPress website.

Once, the WPForms plugin is activated, go to WPForms >> Add New to create a new form.

Now, from the list of pre-made templates, select the Donation Form template and name it.

Step 2: Customize Your Form Fields

Once, you’ve created a form, it’s time to add some additional fields to it.

By default, the donation amount field consists of only a single amount field where user can enter any amount they want to donate.

If you want to add options of different amounts, you can add multiple items or dropdown fields instead. For this, simply drag them form field from the left side panel and drop it to your preferred position in the form editor.

To add a multiple-choice payment field, drag the Multiple Items field found under Payment Field, to the right-side panel.

This field lets you add different donation amount options to your form. For this, click on the Multiple Items field to make changes.

Now, change the label name to something like “Donation Amount” and enter whatever amounts you want and also add another item with the name “Enter amount”.

Now, click the Single Item field to edit the options and uncheck the “Required” checkbox, or it will prevent users to select the pre-defined donation amounts.

Next, scroll to the menu Conditionals and select the “Enable conditional logic” checkbox. Further, select the option to Show this field if Donation Amount is Enter Amount.

Once you’re done, hit the Save button and save your customizing settings.

Step 3: Configure Your Payment Settings

After configuring your customizing settings, it’s time to add payment integration to your donation forms. WPForms lets you accept payment with PayPal and Stripe.

Before adding the payment method, you’ll first have to install and activate the right payment addon. For more details, you can check these guides:

For example, we’ll set up PayPal integration to process donations.

For this, head over to Payments » PayPal Standard to enable payments for this form and click on the Enable PayPal Standard payments checkbox option.

Apart from enabling PayPal payment, here’re the additional settings to fill out:

  • Enter your PayPal email address.
  • Select Production mode.
  • Select the Donation payment type.
  • And adjust the remaining settings as you need.

After configuring all settings, click Save and proceed further.

Step 4: Configure Your Notification Settings

To make sure that donors are receiving a confirmation email, you’ll need to customize your notification settings.

By default, your form’s notifications settings will be “ON”, it means you’ll receive a notification when someone submits a donation amount on your website.

Step 5: Configure Your Form’s Confirmation Settings

After configuring notification settings, it’s time to set up your form’s confirmation message.

To do this, head over to Settings » Confirmation in your form’s editor. Next, select the type of confirmation you would like to create. For example, I’ll select the Message.

Now you can go ahead and add your form to your website.

Step 6: Add and Publish Donation Form

Now you have created the donation form, so the final step is to add to your website. You can add it anywhere on your site like pages, posts, or sidebar.

For this, go to Page >>Add New to create a new page and then click on the Add Form button.

Now, hit the publish button so your form will appear on your website.
