6 Marketing Tips for a Successful Online Business

Successful Internet Marketing Tips | Marketing is one of the most important segments of developing your small business. It is a venture that will pay for itself over and over again. We are living in an age whereby every time you have the need for new information, you get it immediately from the internet. Therefore it is very easy to see why internet marketing should be taken extremely seriously.

If you want to endure in the online community, you have to be able to show your determination. Internet can help a small business progress and internet marketing will help you take full advantage of all the possibilities created in the online world. Unlike large and recognized businesses, the online marketing approach of a small business is often compacted due to financial restrictions. By marketing on the Internet, you can overcome barriers of distance. You can sell goods in any part of the country without setting up local outlets, widening your target market.

1. Don’t forget your audience

This is the simplest, yet most important tip of all as market research is essential to marketing. Are there particular demographics you are trying to attract? What websites does that demographic frequent? What qualities will they be looking for when they look at your product and how can you show your product has those qualities?

These are just a few questions which any online business should know the answer to before they plan a marketing strategy. Come up with a few, good open-ended questions and then conduct your own market research. Be social and ask customers for their thoughts and check what people are saying about your company on social media. This will help you identify your weaknesses and know what your marketing strategy should look like.

2. Appealing Website Content

The design, images and layout of your website are important. But without the engaging content to go with them, they’re unlikely to result in a conversion. When creating your content for the Internet, it’s important that you break apart the information into easy-to-scan sections and clear subheadings. There are over 600 million websites out there and this number is rising on a daily basis. So it’s vital that your website hooks your reader’s consideration as soon as they land on it. Strengthening your online existence will rely on it, and for many businesses this poses a new challenge, a new element to factor into their tactical planning.

3. Current Information

There is nothing worse than outdated information on a website. People will leave your website so quickly it will make your head spin. People want to feel like you care about your own website as much as you would care about their business. When I see a footer of a website that says “copyright 2010”, I have to wonder…do I really want to spend my hard earned money on this website?

Having current information on your site is good practice. To add new content, you might want to add a blog where you can post articles on topics you are interested in.

4. Get active on social media

Even if you create the greatest blog post ever, it does not matter if no one actually reads it. Places like WordPress are a good way to set up content marketing, but content marketing must be tied into a social media marketing campaign to get it out to potential readers.

But an active social media strategy does not mean creating a business account on every social media website. Focus on one of the major social websites and slowly spread out to the others, once you have a reliable following on your first website. Facebook is probably the default choice, but you can use LinkedIn if your business is more formal and professional and Instagram or Pinterest if your business is more casual. And avoid Twitter.

5. Understand the importance of SEO

Marketing Tips for a Successful Online Business

SEO is very important in website design. There are people who dedicate their lives to learning about how to make websites rank better in search engines. In layman’s terms, Search Engine Optimization is a way that your website ranks in search engines so people can find your website. Google, Bing and others weigh the information on your site and rank your site so people can find information that is useful. For instance, if you have a word bolded in your text, Google thinks… “this word must be important because it’s bold”.  The same can be said if it links to a another website/web page.

Editing your text with some simple SEO techniques can actually help you rank higher without too much effort.

6. Call to Action – What do You Want Me To Do?

A Call to Action button is a common term you might hear from a web designer. It’s usually a button/image that is large and colorful and links to something on your website you really want your visitor to do. You want the visitor to do something like get more information, look at something, or download something. For instance, if you were selling a book you might have a button that makes people want to click on the image to learn more.
